what I want to get rid of is the throttle "hang time", I hate that the car keeps cruising along and doesnt decelerate till 4 seconds later

All new Mustangs (except GT500's) are 5-spds... do you mean auto or manual.

for manuals you do it in neutral and it doesn't effect your tune right?

I found out that there are some unique characteristics of drive by wire throttle control systems:

Throttle Lag = Where you stomp on the gas pedal and there is a delay between the time you stomp on the pedal and the engine RPM begins to change. In a 2007 Pontiac G6 3.5L V6 auto, there was about a 1 second throttle lag. I could go WOT and it would sit there scratching its head before deciding to go WOT. I could replicate this 100% of the time.

Throttle Hang = When you let off the throttle and the engine RPM either remains steady, or actually increases a little. This entire process lasts a fraction of a second but it is replicable and noticeable 100% of the time.

Throttle dead-play = The beginning travel of the throttle where physical input doesn't translate to any change in the throttle blade angle. Gently tipping the throttle would not result in the change of the engine RPM.

My bone stock 2007 GT manual has no throttle lag, but does have throttle dead-play (about 1/8") and some throttle hang. I originally confused the throttle lag with the throttle dead-play until I realized how once I got past the dead-zone, the engine would react immediately. The G6's throttle lag made me appreciate Ford's drive-by-wire a lot more.

I did this yesterday morning. After I let off the throttle, I heard a 2 second "whirring noise". It does indeed work and had no effect on my tune what- so- ever.

Is there any way to correct this? I have a manual trans and it happens when I let off the throttle and push in the clutch. It's especially noticable from first to second gear and when in first gear creeping along in slow traffic. It drives me nuts!

its to my understanding that a tuner/programer will fix that.

Ok guys, I tried this and this is what I found:

1) The "whirring noise" that you guys are hearing happens even when you aren't doing this. I hear this whirring/clicking noise from behind the dash every single time I turn my car off. Try it.
2) I think it happens every time you turn your car on too, but you just can't hear it over the engine. It happens when you turn your car on (without starting the engine) and DON'T push any pedals.

I tried it and I might feel a difference, I'm not sure. I feel like any difference could be in my head. One way to test to see if this is actually doing anything is:
Try "calibrating" it by only pressing the gas pedal down 50% of the way and then letting go. If it is truely being calibrated, then your car should drive at wide-open-throttle when your gas pedal is only halfway down. And then it should just stay at WOT if you press it down any further. My gut feeling tells me that this will not be the case, but I will test it this morning on my way to work.

This procedure works very well on my Auto. The lag is cut in half. As for the "whirring noise" some of you are talking about, its got nothing to with this procedure. You will get this "whirring noise" every time you shut the car off. Its just the fuel/voltage/temp/pressure guage needles going back to zero. Its deffinatley not a computer "crunching" away. Those computers died out in the 70's

Didn't do a thing for me. Ford Drive By Wire SUCKS.
Clunk chug chug chug clunk.

Pathetic.

... but don't take it to a dealer "they all to that / it's normal / there's nothing wrong"
Seems with FORD, all you have to do is lower your standards.
