Despite all of the attempts to get their first peek at the 2015 Ford Mustang, Al Wilkinson still did a great job at keeping the new ‘Stang from being exposed too early. Wilkinson is the “camouflage coordinator” at Ford Motor Company and it was a daunting task indeed.
“We try to use lightweight vinyl and different types of foam with don’t absorb water,” he says in an interview with NPR’s “All Things Considered”, “The materials we use have to be flexible and also be able to hold up to all different weather climates.”
Given all his efforts, though, the automotive “paparazzi” is always on the hunt for the next big car before its reveal. These guys do things like blend in at gas stations, follow camouflaged cars from the factory; some even go as far as to sneak into Ford’s test facility late at night to get that one in a million shot that nobody else was going to have until the reveal of what was the next Mustang.
Now that it’s all said and done, Al Wilkinson can still walk out knowing that we didn’t get much of the 2015 Mustang on his watch and it makes you wonder how he’s going to hide next “big thing” from Ford.
