It’s amazing how a car can tell a story. It can offer a look into the lives of both ordinary and influential people, as well as a historic trip back in time.

This beautifully restored 1967 Shelby GT500, up for auction at Bring A Trailer, changed hands seven times before it arrived at the current seller. Among the seven owners, two of them attempted restorations. The first one lost interest, and the second spent 14 months on a ground-up restoration, which was completed in 1998.

Two of the other owners were car collectors from Kuwait, one of whom received 2nd place in the Kuwait Concours d’Elegance. Now, the current owner only takes it to car shows in Quebec and makes sure it receives the proper care it needs. This just goes to show how many different personalities can be behind a car, especially one that’s nearly 50-years-old.

When it comes down to the details, you’ll be glad to know that this Mustang still has its original 428ci Ford Cobra V8 engine. This engine was advertised as putting out 355 horsepower back in the day. Someone actually stole the original carburetors, and they had to be rebuilt and installed. The engine block, transmission, clutch, and pressure plate were rebuilt with careful attention to refurbishing original parts. This was done in the 90s by several companies in Indiana. The radiator has also been refurbished.

The front control arms and rear suspension both have NOS Ford Service parts. Some new installations included a brake master cylinder and Koni shocks on each of the car’s four sections.

The original Highland Green paint, however, has been replaced with Dark Green. Before the restoration process, the only noticeable blemish on the car was corrosion near the apron overlap. Everything on the exterior of the car looks pristine.

The car’s interior maintains the stock look. The upholstery shows little wear, as well as the original dash and sun visors. The headliner, seatbelts, shoulder harnesses, and reels are also all original. All of the dash components work just fine. The steering wheel and shifter were restored and they look amazing.

The car rolled out of the factory in July 1967, completed by Shelby American. It was delivered to Hickey Ford in Troy, NY, where it was purchased by its first owner. The car came with quite detailed information and documents, showing good titles and ownership history. It’s a truly beautiful restored car from top to bottom, so if you want it, you better act quickly, because there’s only three days left in the auction.
