Twin-Turbo Shelby GT500 Dyno

This twin-turbo Shelby GT500 makes incredible power, and it doesn’t even break a sweat doing so, either.

The newest iteration of the Mustang Shelby GT500 comes with a true masterpiece of a powerplant – Ford’s supercharged 5.2-liter Predator V8 – which also responds quite well to modifications, in addition to being quite the powerhouse in stock form. We’ve seen these engines easily crest the 1,000 wheel horsepower mark time and time again, but this wicked black twin-turbo Shelby GT500 that recently hit the dyno at Mustang Week takes a bit of a different approach to generating massive power, as we can see in this video from Mustang Lifestyle.

During the event’s dyno session, the twin-turbo Shelby GT500 hits the rollers and immediately puts down 1,130 horsepower on 21 pounds of boost, so for the second run, the owner adds ten percent on the duty cycle, which results in 22 psi. That was good enough to hit 1,191 horsepower, which its undoubtedly impressive. What’s also impressive about this car is the fact that the boost kicks in pretty darn quickly for a turbo setup, with virtually no lag.

Another interesting note about this car is the owner was previously having issues with the car’s seven-speed dual-clutch transmission slipping when he put it on the dyno, but in the process, he discovered a pretty easy fix for that problem – replace Ford’s transmission oil with a +4 synthetic fluid instead. He made that switch, and as a result, the car didn’t slip one bit on this particular dyno run.

Though he calls it a day at this point, the owner also points out that he typically runs the car at 26 pounds of boost on the street, so it obviously has more than 1,200 wheel horsepower in it. But on this particular day, he’s not interested in messing up the Shelby, which is totally understandable. He does take a somewhat spirited ride without doing anything crazy as well, and still manages to give his passenger a slight panic attack, though we can’t imagine that this car can come close to hooking on the street on its stock rubber if he gave it all the beans.
