Wicked 2,000 WHP Twin-Turbo Mustang Slays at the Drag Strip

Hard work and tons of testing pay off as this twin-turbo Mustang destroys everything it lines up against.

Over the last several years, street cars have essentially morphed into race cars, bearing little resemblance to anything a sane person might want to use to commute to work in rush hour traffic day in and day out. But at the same time, street-legal machines are also ripping up the drag strip, recording elapsed times that were reserved for hardcore, top-level dragsters not terribly long ago. And that includes the wicked, green, 2,000 wheel horsepower twin-turbo Mustang featured in this video from That Racing Channel.

The difference here is, this particular twin-turbo Mustang is competing in the MITM Elite Street Class, which means that it must first demonstrate its street-worthiness by going on a 30-mile cruise down the road before hitting the strip. Luckily, as most of us are well aware, the 5.0-liter Coyote V8 makes a fantastic dual-purpose powerplant, capable of churning out insane power and remaining cool and reliable for daily driving.

After the cars wrap up their cruise, they must head straight to the staging lanes without making any major changes or even adding fuel. That’s no problem for our green S197, however, as it manages to run a best pass of 7.3 seconds at 196 miles-per-hour, the latter of which is a personal best for the car. With the heat index sitting at a lofty 107 degrees, that’s certainly not anything to sneeze at.

One by one, competitors line up, and the Mustang knocks them down. Eventually, the team meets up with the quickest car in the class – an also-green Mazda RX-7, and manages to edge it out by running a 7.22-second pass, while the rotary-powered rig is right behind it with a 7.34. In the finals, the pony car faces off with a Corvette, but that race proves to be a bit of a flop as the Chevy gets loose and only musters up an 8.73 compared to the Mustang’s 7.35-second pass.

“All that work and testing paid off,” the owner says after collecting his big win. “Just the whole thing, like, I’m getting emotional from it. This was a cool win. It wasn’t ideal at first, because it’s like the worst conditions for my car. To get it working in those conditions is pretty freaking cool.” Clearly, the owner and his team put in a lot of work for this win, and that effort paid off big time in the end.
