VMP’s Odin Supercharger Kit Kills YouTuber’s GoPro
There’s no such thing as too much torque but perhaps this Grabber Lime Mustang could use a little ‘nerfing.’
If you follow the exploits of YouTuber StangMode, you know that host Kundan’s car, Black Mamba, is never done. Through good and bad, we’ve seen the Mamba go through it all, be it track day victories, or freak breakdowns. That’s why this recent video is so funny; it’s a little bit of both. Here, we see Kundan’s GoPro get sent to the big drag strip in the sky thanks to tuner VMP Performance’s insane new Odin supercharger kit.
Just released in time for the holiday season, VMP’s Odin kit promises to turn any 2018 to 2020 Mustang GT into a supercar killer. Named after the Norse God of air and gatekeeper of Valhalla, the basic kit features a blower, oil pump gears, long tubes, 1,000-cc fuel injectors, and a dual-fan heat exchanger and runs on 93 Octane. All in, the base kit is good for about 700 horsepower at the rear wheels.
Too Fast for YouTube?
The Mamba is getting the Odin kit, but in the meantime, Kundan and Chuck Harter from VMP go for a ride in the garage’s gray test GT so he can get a feel for the kit. From the outset, Kundan is amazed by the car’s smooth power delivery, its “instant torque,” and throttle response. “You forget you’re driving a supercharged car until you do this – ” he says as he mashes the gas pedal and the supercharger whine drowns out everything else.
But somewhere along, the way, Kundan’s GoPro loses grip and meets its demise in the middle of a two-lane highway. After a search, the guys find the camera in the middle of the road, and go to retrieve its memory card. “We’re on a rescue mission for you guys,” Kundan says, “We want you to see this footage.” He notes that the camera held on for dear life on Demonology’s Dodge Demon, adding ” We’re not saying nothing, but if that isn’t a good measurement of power…”
Despite the hopes of recovering the GoPro’s “crazy cool footage,” the camera, and its SD card, are damaged beyond recovery. Still, it’s a pretty ringing endorsement for the Odin kit’s torque. And Kundan can’t wait for the upgrade on the Mamba. “As I’ve driven the car,” he says, “my biggest takeaway is the drivability of the kit. Because it reminds me of the GT500, how smooth it is.”
At $9,000, VMP’s Odin kit isn’t cheap. But for those guys who want Demon-slaying power but don’t want to give up their beloved GTs for a GT500, it’s a steal. Just remember: Mount your GoPros on top of the dash before doing any pulls.
