VMP-supercharged Mustang Slays the U.K. Streets
Insane 1,000-horsepower widebody VMP Mustang is custom inside and out, proving the U.S. isn’t the only place Mustangs thrive.
The fever for four figures in the Mustang community has spread across the pond, it seems. It’s easy to see why, too. The Coyote 5.0 V8 takes insane power as it comes, so making significant power figures is as simple as bolting performance upgrades to it and tuning it.
In this video posted by Officially Gassed on Youtube, the host, Jamie, walks us through this madhouse of a Mustang GT. The owner, Alex Poppleton, has put an insane amount of work into this car. He has installed all the modifications on the car. It has a VMP supercharger and makes over 1,000 horsepower, but that doesn’t begin to scratch the surface on everything done to it.
“It’s supercharged, and it’s got a 2.65-liter supercharger. All new injectors, intake, and tune as well. That’s a complete custom map. It’s got a full exhaust, three-inch system, decatted, headers,” says Poppleton
All of these modifications bring it to an astounding 1,005 crank horsepower. What’s equally impressive, though, is its torque figure. It makes 866 pound-feet of torque at the crank.
Though, it isn’t just the performance that has been upgraded. This car has had nearly every piece of it modified. Outside it features custom modified Duraflex fender flares that fit onto the GT350 front bumper. It also has a matte metallic black wrap that shows it’s metallic flakes in just the right lighting. It’s hard to see in the video, but you can take a closer look at it on Poppleton’s Instagram account.
Furthermore, it sits on a set of Project 6GR wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires. It also has air ride suspension and GT350R brakes.
Carbon fiber everything
The interior of this Mustang is absolutely wild. The centerpiece is his custom carbon fiber steering wheel that is astonishing to look at. He also has a set of Corbeau racing bucket seats installed. However, in his quest to find everything he could in carbon fiber, he fell short in one area.
“The dash is actually hydro-dipped. They don’t do, yet, although I’m going to get some made, carbon fiber dash for the right-hand-drive Mustangs,” says Poppleton
That is certainly something we wouldn’t have considered, but we can imagine there are not very many RHD specific upgrades for Mustangs, considering the majority of them are sold here in the states.
It never gets old watching people react to a supercharged Mustang. Jamie is certainly no exception. The very second you hear the supercharger whine, his jaw practically hits the floor of the car. However, he didn’t even really get the full experience due to wet roads. Even with the wide Pilot Sports on the rear, there is no hope for putting down this massive amount of power in the wet.
It certainly doesn’t stop Poppleton from scaring him, though! The way the back end gets loose under acceleration makes us nervous watching from home. We can’t imagine experiencing it first hand.
After his ride-along, Jamie got to take it for a spin. Rightfully, he takes it very easy and slowly rolls into the throttle. We’ve all seen the videos, and he didn’t want to be a statistic of the Mustang crash stereotype.
“That is me slowly easing the throttle. This feels like it could do anything at any time. This is scary, it’s intimidating. Especially in these conditions,” says Jamie
You can certainly see in Poppleton’s face that he agrees. His reactions to the performance of his own car are a gold mine of entertainment.
Overall, we are super happy to see the Brits taking a liking to the iconic pony car. It looks like they don’t even need any help from us yanks, either. They seem to be figuring it all out just fine. Cheers mates!
