Tickford launches limited-edition Mustang to celebrate 40th anniversary of Moffat’s win at the Bathurst 1000.

The iconic Mount Panorama circuit is host to the Bathurst 1000 every year. Despite it putting on a show for hundreds of thousands of attendants and tv viewers every year, there are certain editions that stand out.

One of those nail-biting years was 1977, when Allan Moffat and his F1-star co-driver Jacky Ickx scored a legendary one-two against Colin Bond and Alan Hamilton. The four drivers crossed the finish line in identical Moffat Ford Dealers Falcon XC Hardtops.

To commemorate such victory, Ford tuner Tickford has commissioned 77 custom Mustang GTs, which will go on sale in Australia. “The team at Tickford have done a very thorough job coming up with a modern interpretation of my 1977 XC Hardtop. While the Falcon has sadly been consigned to the history books, the Mustang was always one of my favourite cars to race and I had considerable success in them. Ford has done a great job with the latest one,” said Moffat.

The price one must pay to obtain one of these coveted limited editions wasn’t released, but they’ll certainly carry a premium over a traditional GT’s price, which in Australia could be nearly $60k. Besides the stunning graphics added to the white Mustang, 20-inch alloy wheels and a plethora of accessories will be added. In the performance department, a supercharger will be strapped to the 5.0-liter V8 — although no specifications have been made public.

An official release date hasn’t been announced, but if you’re interested in picking up one of these 77 models, it’d be wise to get in line as of yesterday.
