Stage 2 Roush Mustang Breaks Into 10-Second Club at Ohio NMRA Nationals

Both Roush and Whipple Stangs leave their other competitors sleeping at the light but their fateful encounter proves even more exciting.

There’s an interesting video doing the rounds on YouTube of a stock-looking and quite anonymous gray 10-second Roush Supercharged S550 current model Mustang teaching a lesson to a 2.9-liter Whipple supercharged Grabber Blue California Special Gen 3 Mustang.

Naturally, the ponies square off for supremacy but before we get into that, let’s first take a look at their performances individually.

Gray Stang Manages a 9.63 Quarter-Mile; Grabber Blue 9.96

Drag Racing and Car Stuff ‘s video shows both cars bogging a little off the line, but the blue car gets the power down sooner. Only for the gray car to haul it in and post a 9.63 quarter at 148 mph. Versus the blue car’s 9.96 pass at a 145-mph terminal velocity.

The video continues to follow the blue car through a series of further runs at what turns out to be last weekend’s inaugural NMRA Ford Performance Nationals at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio. And while we know from the video that the blue car was driven by Bo Webb, the gray car’s pilot remains a mystery.

The interesting bit is that the gray machine is equipped with a warrantied Ford Performance developed kit that’s available directly from Ford. The Phase 2 Roush supercharged machine adds a 290-pony stampede to the Mustang. To deliver a lofty 750 HP and 670 pound-feet of torque. The kit is applied to the stock naturally aspirated 460 HP variable valve timed quad overhead camshaft 32-valve alloy block V8.
