1966 Mustang Fastback

Clean 1966 Mustang Fastback has been owned by the same man for nearly 30 years. One look, and you’ll understand why.

The 1966 Mustang Fastback ranks high on the list of desirable Mustangs. The owner of the one you see here purchased it back in 1995. It was a non-runner at the time. He immediately took it apart so that would force him to get it back together and on the road. And boy did this Mustang come back together. It is not an over-the-top build with crazy power or a wild paint job. But it is just a super clean cruiser in a classic silver over red paint scheme. This car was built the right way.

Recently the car made a visit to AutotopiaLA and they featured the car in a video on their YouTube channel. It is the perfect example of a high quality but restrained restomod build. The car just looks so right. The owner has no plans to track the car or anything like that, so he kept the brakes stock. He really only touched the items that would benefit how he was going to use the car. We respect him for resisting the urge to build an outrageous machine. As you can see, simple can be beautiful.

Origin Story

The owner of the car was walking to the Pomona Swap Meet back in 1995. He bumped into a guy who asked him what he was looking for. He said a 1966 or 1967 Mustang Fastback. As it turns out that man just so happened to have a 1966 Mustang Fastback that he was looking to sell. Even though the car was not running at the time, he bought it on the spot. Once home he immediately got to work on it.

Pop the Hood

Powering this beautiful car is a 347 stroker motor that makes 476 horsepower at the crank. The car was originally an automatic, but come on, this car needs to be a manual. So, a T5 5-speed manual was swapped in. There are some mild suspension mods to go along with the additional power. The wheels are from Shelby and the design of the wheels was inspired by the famous Eleanor Mustang.

Inside

This car is beautiful inside with the red leather. And again, it is not overdone. The owner didn’t want to put a bunch of look at me items on the car. It is very much a classic Mustang inside. There is really not much else to say about the interior. Just look at it.

On the Road

And of course, no review of a car like this would be complete without a little time on the road with it. That 347 stroker sounds fantastic. And it looks lovely on the road. Most people tend to agree as during the short trip other motorists give plenty of thumbs up signs. The car shifts, and drives, and steers wonderfully. Set aside ten minutes of your day and watch this Mustang Fastback cruise around like it was built to do. We would not be surprised if the owner kept it for another 30 years.
