Rare Mustang Summer Edition is an obscure special edition Fox Body that’s been amazingly well preserved to date.

The Ford Mustang has been sold in many trim levels, variants, and special editions over the years. One of the more obscure was the Summer Edition, which was introduced mid-way through the 1992 model year. The $850 option was available for LX convertible models and featured Vibrant Red paint with a power white soft top, body-colored mirrors and trim, and a trunk lid spoiler. And today, you’d be hard pressed to find a nicer existing example than this Mustang Summer Edition up for sale at Auto Hunter.

With just 3,000 miles on the clock, this car certainly hasn’t been driven much over the last nearly three decades. Everything, from the distinctive exterior to the white leather interior, looks essentially new. This particular Mustang Summer Edition was sold new in North Carolina before spending some time in Ohio and California, but now sports an Arizona title.

For Fox Body fans, the LX 5.0 was always a popular choice, as it came sans the GT’s ground effects for a minimalist package. And this is certainly a nice example of the breed, still wearing its original pony wheels. There are two areas that were touched up professionally, including the driver side rocker panel from a minor fender bender, and a hood paint chip, but the car is otherwise pretty much flawless.

There aren’t a ton of these cars out there in the world, but that’s because Ford didn’t make a lot of them. Just 2,193 Summer Special Edition Mustangs were produced for the 1992 model year in total. Most of them, 1,722 to be exact, came equipped with a manual transmission like this one. But back in this era, that’s exactly what you wanted.

This Mustang Summer Edition is nicely equipped for warm weather cruising, too. Amenities include a four-way adjustable power driver’s seat, air conditioning, power windows, AM/FM cassette radio, Convenience Group, Power Lock Group, and Light Group. The car comes with a slew of original goodies, including all of the manuals and even the audio system cassette demo tape that came with the car.

Aside from the minor accident this car suffered many years ago, it’s a pretty amazing example of a rather rare and somewhat forgotten model. And for those reasons, we’ll be curious to see what it ultimately sells for.
