Teen Tries to Drift, Wrecks Brand New Mustang GT
Youthful exuberance, a wet road, and a Mustang with potent horsepower don’t mix. Just take a look at this example of woeful inexperience.
Sometimes, bad things happen to our fellow Mustang owners, and most of the time, we’re inclined to feel sympathetic. Not this time, though. This time, we can only shake our head in disgust.
The incident happened in Cranbrook, British Columbia in Canada, in front of a shopping mall. According to Car Scoops, the 19-year-old owner of this Need For Green 2019 Mustang GT had owned the car for just three days before he tried to show off by drifting. Things didn’t go as planned, and he unceremoniously ended up in a creek with no injuries besides a ruined Mustang to show for the attempt.
One bystander, Dakota Dayman, filmed a video (the real crime here might have been filming in portrait mode). Of course, we all like to have fun in our Mustangs. However, showing off in front of a busy shopping mall on a wet road is a recipe for disaster – and an exercise in abject stupidity. He’s lucky someone wasn’t hurt.
A Recipe For Disaster
It’s not a great idea to put an inexperienced kid behind the wheel of a 460 horsepower muscle car. That’s especially true when the kid in question is as clearly immature as this one. It’s pretty clear that the driver ran out of talent fast. Plus, you’d have to be pretty foolish to abuse a car like this after just three days.
We’re firm believers in carefully breaking in an engine to maximize long-term performance. After all, since Mom and Dad didn’t pay for our stuff, we have to make it last. Mustang GTs may be comparatively affordable, we doubt this kid had the cash or the credit to spend upwards of $40k on this car.
In addition to the obvious body damage, there’s probably flood damage as well. It’s likely that this Mustang will never see the road again. Just three days old, and already ruined. Sad.
With the citations this kid likely received from the accident, we’re sure that his insurance premiums will go through the roof. He’ll probably be stuck driving something like a used Ford Fiesta for the next few years. Hopefully, in that time, he can gain some experience — and learn a bit about self-control.
