McLaren 570 S Gapped By Twin-turbo Mustang

By -

Take a close look at this 850-horsepower sleeper Mustang and tell us where the turbos are. McLaren didn’t stand a chance.

Anyone who’s watched StreetSpeed717’s YouTube channel knows his love of orange cars is revealed in his ZR1 Corvette and McLaren 570 S. The McLaren is the faster orange car in that stable, but so far, he’s never been able to race it against something properly fast. That is, until a lowly looking white S550 Mustang GT came along. StreetSpeed shows some footage he took of this car at a car show, and this 5.0 is rather unassuming, but proved to be an incredible sleeper.

Not that the Mustang GT isn’t fast, but you wouldn’t expect it to be this fast. Despite being able to peek directly under the hood, there’s almost no indication that this car sprouts a twin turbo kit. Even looking closely, all the extra plumbing needed for forced induction is tucked away and out of sight. Ultimately, power to the back wheels of the Mustang stands at about 850, and it is known to run the 1/4 mile in the mid 9s.

To make things fair, the 570S isn’t stock either. It has downpipes and a tune. And since it weighs a whole lot less than the Mustang, and is arguably a more slippery shape, it stands a chance with some highway roll racing, especially as speeds start to climb. However, the real world story paints an entirely different picture. There’s simply no way for the lightweight McLaren to make up for the difference in horsepower. And after three races that all concluded in the same result, the verdict was in.

Gaps would be most accurately measured in bus lengths, but even StreetSpeed717 admits that the Mustang would gap significantly, and the McLaren just couldn’t reel the Ford in. As they say, don’t judge a book by its cover. It is just one of the things that makes this S550 such a sleeper.
