Shelby GT350 Is a Thirsty Monster: GT350 Fuel Economy Leaked

In today’s automotive society, people tend to care more about fuel consumption numbers than the noise they get while mashing down the accelerator. It doesn’t matter if the car is an absolute track-destroying monster, either. People are still concerned whether they’re going to go broke just by filling up the tank. But can you really blame them, what with the price of fuel all over the world?

It’s a rather sad predicament as an enthusiast, but one that has auto manufacturers pushing the boundaries on performance cars in terms of new, innovative ways of developing horsepower. That’s why we have things like the McLaren P1, the Porsche 918 Spyder, and the new Ford GT. However, there are many times when I personally long for the naturally aspirated, gasoline-swilling glory days. Thankfully, Ford apparently longs for them too.

According to a leaked window sticker from the new Shelby GT350, the new track-focused Mustang will only get 14 miles per gallon in the city, and 21 miles per gallon on the highway from its 5.2L naturally aspirated flat-plane-crank V8. The sticker also details the EPA’s findings about the annual fuel cost, which comes to a whopping $3,550 a year. The finding was initially shared on Musang6G forum by one of the rare (and lucky) new owners of the car.

The window sticker also shows that the new Shelby GT350 received a five-star safety rating, meaning you can go to your significant other and say, “See, look, it’s a safe family car!” While they might not buy that line of thinking, the five-stars show that Ford is not only looking at the past, but the future as well.

All that said, we’re still bit skeptical if these numbers will actually hold up to what will most likely be the most tracked Mustang ever produced. But what about you? Are you at all surprised by the fuel economy ratings? Or is this just on par with what you expected? Sound off in the comments below.
