Shelby American Launches New Super Snake
When Ford announced that the next Shelby badged Mustang was set to become the ultimate track day monster, a few folks in the Mustang community got a bit angry with the Blue Oval. For years, Ford’s Shelby badged vehicles were always drag strip weapons. They had live rear axles, a billion horsepower, and would stomp on everything they queued up against.
Then, for 2015, the new Mustang changed all that. The car ditched the drag favorite live axle for a new IRS system, and the Mustang headed to the track to take on the Camaro Z/28. Thankfully though, there are still a few shops around the world that want to cater to the drag racing community. Chief among them: Shelby American.
Launched today, Shelby American has its newest Mustang: the Super Snake. Using the same 5.0L Coyote motor as the normal GT, Shelby American has turned up the wick on the Mustang by adding a Whipple Supercharger, among other performance bolt-ons. The result is a whopping 750+ horsepower.
The Super Snake comes in two different trim levels. First an appearance package that adds some cooling, a lot of aerodynamic work, and a set of 20-inch forged wheels. That will cost you $49,999. For the full-on 750+ horsepower, you’ll need to throw down $54,999.
