S550 Mustang 5.0 Is Today’s Best Performance Bargain
Low-Mileage 2015 GT with Premium and Performance packages selling for just $32,500
We’re all in agreement that the S550 Mustang GT is a pretty great way to spend your money. Ford packs a whole lot of performance and driving comfort into the current Mustang, especially for the price. We’re looking forward to the 2018 model, but if you’re on a slightly tighter budget, you can get a nice, used, loaded S550 GT for about 25% less than a new one. Five-Point-Oh Mustangs have always been performance bargains, but this just might be the best performance for the money on the used market right now.
A friend recently brought to our attention that Performance pack 2015 GTs are trading hands for around $30K right now. At first, we couldn’t believe that such a recent car was available for comparatively little. But it only took a quick cruise of our local Craigslist to find one that fit that bill.

The Performance pack adds three grand to the price of your brand new ‘Stang. But it gives you 19″ wheels wrapped in performance-oriented summer tires, Brembo big brakes, more gauges, stiffer springs, stiffer sway bars, a front “K-brace,” a front strut brace, a larger radiator, and most impressively, a Torsen limited slip differential. The Premium pack hooks your Mustang up with 9-speaker audio, leather seats and trim, dual climate control, and blind spot monitoring, among other niceties.
The S550 Mustang, when optioned out with both the Performance and Premium packs, is a whole lot of car for $43,000, or so. But it’s an even better car when it has just 12,500 miles on the odometer, and you only have to lay down $32,500. If you’re looking for a fun car that you can drive every day of the week, you may have found it.
