Roush S650 Mustang Phase 1 Supercharger Kit Offers 740 HP for Less Than $10K

The Roush S650 Mustang Phase 1 kit is compatible with the Mustang GT and Dark Horse models.

As soon as the S650 Mustang was released the folks at Roush Performance began to figure out ways to extract more power. That may seem a bit over-the-top considering the least powerful S650 Mustang GT you can buy makes 480 horsepower. The Dark Horse makes an even 500. But Mustangs with absurd amounts of power have been built for decades and there is no reason to stop now. The problem is a lot of these mega power builds also come with mega price tags. Not everyone can afford to drop six figures into a Mustang. Thanks to the Roush S650 Mustang Phase 1 Supercharger Kit you won’t have to.

The kit boosts the power in your S650 Mustang GT or Dark Horse to 740 horses and 600 pound-feet of torque. The kit is available now for pre-order and it will set you back $9,995. Not bad for an over 50 percent increase in power output. And that extra power translates to extra performance. Roush claims that on a prepared track a stock Mustang with this kit and the automatic transmission, and 3.55 rear gears hit 60 mph in 3 seconds flat. It tripped the quarter mile in 10.55 seconds at 133 mph. It accelerates with 1.39g of force. Those are some serious numbers. You will need to account for about 10 hours of labor to get the kit installed so figure on a couple grand for that. But even with that, those are serious performance numbers for about $12K all in.

Kit Contents

The highlight of the kit is the dual front inlet, front drive TVS R2650 supercharger. And every single time you pop the hood you and everyone around you will spot it thanks to the unique Roush Red finish. The supercharger layout is an inverted design with dual high-efficiency intercoolers to keep air intake temperatures nice and cool. The factory twin 80mm throttle bodies are retained.

Fuel and Cool

To optimize fuel delivery and to keep things cool under the hood the Roush S650 Mustang Phase 1 kit includes several key features. There are high-flow dual cone fuel injectors, billet aluminum fuel rails, a large front heat exchanger, a high-capacity degas bottle that prevents coolant aeration, a high-flow Bosch PCE model intercooler pump and more.

Installation, Tuning and Warranty

The kit is designed to fit under the stock hood and K-brace without needing to make any modifications. The wiring is all plug-and-play and colder heat range spark plugs with a reduced gap come pre-installed. The kit is calibrated with Roush’s Diagnostic Tuning Software. The best part is that the kit is SEMA-certified and 50-state CARB EO legal. And a 3-Year/36,000-mile limited powertrain warranty is included. If you want a more powerful Mustang you are going to have to come up with at least $350K and convince Ford to sell you a GTD. For those of us without those funds or connections, this Rouch kit is a fantastic budget alternative.
