Darkhorse VIN 001 is hitting the auction block with 100% of the sale price benefiting a charity to find a cure for diabetes.

The introduction of the Dark Horse Ford Mustang brought with it the most potent version of the iconic Coyote 5.0-liter V8 ever put into a production car. To complement its potent powerplant, its outstanding aero and model-specific design cues command attention even among the most exotic cars. That being said, there’s a unique way to stand out among other Darkhorse owners. That is, to have the very first one made. It’s not going to be cheap, but if you’ve got the capital, you’ll soon have that very opportunity.

Ford is auctioning the first 2024 Mustang Dark Horse at Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale auction. The event takes place from January 20th through January 28th, 2024. This isn’t the first time Ford has partnered with Barrett-Jackson for this kind of charity auction. In fact, at 2023’s Scottsdale event, Ford sold the very first 2024 Mustang GT to benefit charity with a final hammer price of $565,000.00. It’s safe to assume the Darkhorse will bring an eye-watering six-figure number, too.

Here’s What Charity the Dark Horse Is Benefiting

The Barrett-Jackson listing states that 100% of the hammer price will go to the charity JDRF. Formerly known as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, JDRF changed its name because nearly 85 percent of folks suffering from Type 1 Diabetes are over 18 years old. Since 1970, JDRF has led the search for a cure for Type 1 Diabetes by funding research for a cure. Furthermore, the organization provides better therapies to those suffering from Type 1 Diabetes to ensure they live longer and stay healthier overall.

Barrett-Jackson’s listing says that the car is expected to sell around 6:30 PM Mountain Standard Time on Saturday, January 27th, 2024. While we can’t say for sure what final price it’s going to bring in, we can guarantee it’s going to be worth watching! We’ve seen cars pull in some monumental numbers for charity, and this powerful pony should be no exception!

A Closer Look at the Car

The 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse, as mentioned above, has the most powerful Coyote engine to date. With 500 horsepower and 418 pound-feet of torque on deck, it’s sure to provide a riveting driving experience. Further heightening that experience is the six-speed manual Tremec transmission. As one would expect with a Mustang, power makes its way to the rear wheels. The Dark Horse also uses a transmission cooler, oil cooler, and even a rear-axle cooler to ensure it’s ready to withstand some high-performance driving.

This Dark Horse also has the Handling Package. This adds track-specific chassis tuning with adjustable strut tops, larger wheels and tires, and a magnetic damping system. The Appearance Package is also equipped, adding blue brake calipers and special blue stitching throughout the interior.

Overall, it truly is one of the most hardcore Mustang models in history. Having one is cool, sure. Having the first one ever, though, is just that little bit cooler. We’ll definitely be watching to see who scores this awesome machine.
