Roush is standing at the ready with upgrade packages for the EcoBoost and GT models, respectively.

When it comes to Mustangs, buyers have a lot more choices than most performance car fans. In addition to factory performance models, there’s a group of tuners happy to sell performance-bred pony cars with a full warranty. Enter Roush.

Of these, Roush Mustangs are among our favorites, and according to Mustang and Fords, we have even more of a reason to look forward to 2019. Apparently, Roush is standing at the ready with Stage 1 and Stage 2 packages ready for the EcoBoost and GT models, respectively.

The EcoBoost variant, Stage 1, follows the trend of Stage 1 models being mostly appearance upgrades with a few choice performance bolt-ons. A stainless steel exhaust and modified grilles improve cooling, while the Roush R8 aero package gives the EcoBoost an aggressive look. Options include a graphics package and an adjustable coilover suspension, as well as Roush wheels.

Stage 2 definitely takes things a step further, using the Coyote-powered GT as the base car. All of the options available on the Stage 1 car are standard on the Stage 2 model. If the height-adjustable coilover suspension isn’t enough, buyers can opt for three-way adjustable coilovers.

We think we’d do just fine with only height adjustability, as the upgraded wheel and tire combo (Continental Extreme Contact Sports, if you’re wondering) are good for 1.07 lateral Gs on a skid pad.

Back in the day (we’re talking New Edge, here), Saleen Mustangs seemed to put most of their attention into appearance, while Roush Mustangs seemed to focus more on outright performance.

As the base cars have improved, it seems that new Roush Mustangs are more of a refinement of the base car, sitting somewhere in the middle of those two extremes. That’s definitely not a bad thing, and we’re sure that the Stage 1 and 2 Mustangs will be just right for a lot of enthusiasts.
