Roush Mini-series League to Start in Ohio, April 24
All drivers will be racing using the Ford GT 2017 GTE race car with a Roush-suggested setup and will be streamed live via Facebook Live.
ROUSH Performance announces the Mini-Series league, to be held on the iRacing virtual motorsports simulation platform. Races are planned for Mid-Ohio, Virginia International Raceway and Watkins Glen. All races will be in the Ford GT 2017 GTE race car. The field will feature approximately 50 racers for each race, with 30 or more public racers and 20 professional drivers, including those who competed in the ROUSH All-Star Race held in early April. Race events will be broadcast live on Facebook on the ROUSH Performance page.
The first event in the Mini-Series is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Eastern on April 24, 2020, and takes place at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. The second public race will be held at Virginia International Raceway at 7:00 p.m. Eastern on May 1, 2020. The series will conclude at 7:00 p.m. Eastern on May 8, 2020, at Watkins Glen International Raceway.
Races will be one hour in length following a qualifying session. Many professional drivers from the All-Star race will return for this series including Jack Roush Jr, Joey Atterbury, Corey Fergus, Shelby Blackstock, Owen Trinkler, Guy Cosmo, Kyle Marcelli, Dean Martin, Robin Warner, Jade Buford, Matt Plumb, and Nate Stacy. All drivers will be racing using the Ford GT 2017 GTE race car with a ROUSH suggested setup. All races will be streamed live via Facebook Live.
“We had a blast with the first All-Star Race, and the next round featuring the public should be even more fun,” said Jack Roush Jr. “Race fans around the world are hungry for racing and these virtual races have been a great substitute, despite the current lack of live events.”
On the Tuesday of each race week, ROUSH will provide a suggested setup that can be uploaded and adjusted to driver preference. Each week will also include official practice sessions on Wednesday and Thursday from 6-8 p.m. Eastern. On race day, the green flag will be at 7pm, preceded by a practice and qualifying session starting at 6pm each of the next three Fridays.
ROUSH will announce the track conditions on the afternoon of each race day. Conditions will be as close to the actual track conditions on that day for the real-life track, while working within the simulator settings and other considerations for drivability. Participants can then practice on the track prior to the race and make any necessary set-up changes.
