Rotisserie Restored 1969 Mach 1 Super Cobra Jet Is Definitely Droolworthy
One of just over 3,000 produced with these options, this beautiful Mach 1 Super Cobra Jet is an extra special find.
With the Ford Mustang Mach 1 set to make yet another return in 2021, there’s understandably a bit of renewed interest in its predecessors taking place. And among them, few, if any, can hold a candle to this 1969 Mach 1 Super Cobra Jet that’s hitting the block at Mecum’s Kissimmee auction. Fresh off a rotisserie restoration, this Mach 1 Super Cobra Jet with the factory Drag Pack has pretty much everything a Mustang fan could want in a classic Mach 1, and perhaps more.
The most desirable part of this Mach 1 is its 428 cubic-inch Super Cobra Jet V8, of course, which sends power through a close-ratio 4-speed manual gearbox back to a Traction-Lok 9-inch rear differential fitted with 4.30 gears. As part of the car’s restoration, the original engine was rebuilt and dyno-tested, where it returned an impressive 400 horsepower – quite a bit more than the factory rating of 335.
Otherwise, this car is loaded with factory options including power steering, power brakes with front discs, a fold-down rear seat, and an AM radio, while the front spoiler, adjustable rear wing, and rear window louvers have been added after the fact. The R-code option also adds the functional Shaker hood scoop, staggered rear shocks, external oil cooler, heavy-duty connecting rods, and unique engine balancing.
This particular car is finished in the highly attractive hue dubbed Black Jade, which is actually a very dark shade of green, which matches nicely with the black clarion-knit interior. Gold reflective stripes, a blackout hood, dual racing mirrors, quad exhaust tips, and chrome-style steel wheels round out the attractive package, while the cabin sports wood-grain trim and red accents to complete the look.
Throw in the Competition Suspension, and this Mach 1 Super Cobra Jet Drag Pack car is most certainly packed with everything Ford could throw at the Mustang in the late 1960s. This car’s combination of options also makes it somewhat rare, as one of just 3,388 produced. All of these qualities add up to one very special find, as well as a car that any Mustang fan would love to have in their garage – if they have the over $100k necessary to put it there, that is.
