GT350 will get tuned suspension, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, and a new carbon fiber rear spoiler instead.

In 2017, Ford announced that the 2018 Mustang would be getting some new changes in design. These updates included new headlights, taillights, and a sleeker but still aggressive front-end. Most assumed that the Shelby GT350 would be going under the knife this year. However, the Blue Oval announced that the Shelby GT350 and F-150 Raptor will not be receiving these new updates.

At the recent 2019 Ford F-150 Raptor launch in Utah, Ed Krenz, Ford Performance chief engineer, told Motor Authority that the Shelby GT350 and Raptor will retain their current aesthetic. Why? Because these vehicles really would not benefit in performance.

Krenz said that to give the Shelby GT350 a similar visual update as other Mustangs, would require a new front bumper, fenders, hood, and headlights. These are all costly upgrades, and ultimately wouldn’t add to the power or performance of the GT350.

The 2019 GT350 will not be without a few tweaks, however. Improvements are definitely performance-oriented, and include tuned suspension, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, and updated aero package with new carbon fiber rear spoiler and optional Gurney flap.

Based on what we’ve seen of the 2019 Shelby GT350, we think it looks menacing and badass as ever. And the promise of a more responsive, more powerful GT350 is exactly what we want. We can’t wait to get behind the wheel.
