Nicely-Optioned 2005 Ford GT Heads to Auction Seeking Big Bids
This first-year 2005 Ford GT has all four available options and remains in stunning condition, making it a rather desirable auction offering.
The Ford GT is gone again, discontinued following a long and successful run after returning for another generation that yet again celebrated the iconic GT40 and its Ferrari-beating ways. Over the past few years, the first-generation Ford GT has become more and more collectible – and valuable – which makes perfect sense given the fact that it’s a special machine built in scant quantities and touting iconic styling and supercharged V8 power. Thus, we fully expect this 2005 Ford GT to garner plenty of interest at Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale auction next month.
This fine example of a 2005 Ford GT – the very first model year of the first-generation iteration of that vehicle – is finished in red with white stripes, making for an attractive combination, and it looks to be in fantastic shape. It’s unclear how many miles this 2005 Ford GT has traveled, but it’s decked out with BBS wheels and matching Gloss Red-painted brake calipers on the outside.
The black interior is equally clean and tidy, with essentially zero wear present anywhere. This particular Ford GT is equipped with the McIntosh stereo system that’s a nice upgrade, as well as one of four available options for this generation. Even today, the retro-futuristic cabin looks fantastic and has aged quite well, and truthfully, we believe these cars are going to prove timeless moving forward as well.
As was the case with all first-generation models, this 2005 Ford GT is equipped with a supercharged version of the 5.4-liter V8, which in this case utilizes all-aluminum construction, a forged rotating assembly, a dry sump oiling system, a DOHC four-valve design, larger cams, and an Eaton blower, which results in a still-impressive output of 550 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. Flowing to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox only, the first-generation GT could rocket from 0-60 in around 3.3 seconds and hit a top speed of 205 mph.
With timeless style and impressive performance – even by today’s lofty standards – this 2005 Ford GT figures only to grow in terms of value moving forward, particularly since only around 4,500 units were built across two model years. The GT’s predecessor was also only sold with the twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V8 and a dual-clutch gearbox, meaning that those who prefer more of an old school supercar will need to look back a bit further in time.
