NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Race Turns Up the Heat in Pennsylvania

NASCAR Monster Energy Cup 2019

The Mustang Source heads to Pocono Raceway, where NASCAR is still the biggest spectator sport around.

We were on location at Pocono Raceway for the NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series Gander RV 400 race to soak up the one of a kind atmosphere and of course check out some blue ovals rolling around the track.

Pocono Raceway located in the Pocono Mountains in Long Pond, Pennsylvania is affectionately referred to as “The Tricky Triangle”, so called because you guessed it, due to its unique triangular shape. Fans of the track know of the joking phrase of “What Turn 4?”, it is even plastered on the wall after Turn 3.

Before even getting to the Pocono Raceway property cars are tailgating on the sides of the road. Used NASCAR stock car bumpers and broken parts displayed as rare swag as well as for sale in the form of one of a kind swap meets. Once getting on the race track grounds you are greeted more with the sight of a huge carnival than a race. So many vendors, shops, food, even amusement for the kids. If camping for the race weekend is your thing you can tailgate the whole weekend from the seat of your RV along with hundreds while you hear the glorious V8s fly-by.

Now onto the racing.

The Fords qualified well at Pocono Raceway. Kevin Harvick in his Stewart-Haas Racing Ford Mustang took the top qualifying spot, while his fellow blue oval brethren Joey Logano in his Team Penske Ford Mustang and Aric Almirola in his fellow Stewart-Haas Racing Ford Mustang took second and third spots respectively.

After 50 laps of racing Kyle Busch in his Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota Camry took the top spot and nabbed 10 points, while Logano and Harvick came in second and third after Stage 1 grabbing 9 and 8 points. For Stage 2 Jimmie Johnson snuck into the top spot with his Hedrick Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro while Harvick and Logano swapped places to take second and third.

For the final, Denny Hamlin went on to win with his Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota Camry. No Ford’s made the Top 5 cut. Harvick was closest grabbing a 6th place position, while Brad Keselowski and his Team Penske Ford Mustang grabbed 8th and Ryan Blaney and his Team Penske Ford Mustang took the 10 spot.

NASCAR is done at Pocono Raceway for the 2019 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup season, but will return in 2020 for a double header race at “The Tricky Triangle” June 27-28, 2020.
