Nardo Grey Mustang Mixes European Color with American Power

Draped in one of the most popular colors around, 416-horsepower Fox Body Mustang is a two-year labor of love for its owner.

Dark Highland Green. Kona Blue. Oxford White. These are just three of the many colors to have graced the body panels of the Mustang over the pony car’s 50-plus years on the road. And while some shades were ultimately duds, most became classics in time, capping off the styling and power from the Blue Oval’s talented engineers and designers.

However, there is one shade that has never been applied to a Mustang from the factory because of its Audi roots: Nardo Grey. Despite this being a German car hue, this 1991 Mustang owned by Don Rahman, a metal fabricator in Toledo, Ohio, looks unbelievably good. Hot Rod recently checked out his special pony, learning how this build came to be.

“My friend Shawn and I built this car over two year period,” said Rahman. “I rented a building in December of 2014 to build the car in because at the time I didn’t have a garage of any kind. We pulled the car in the shop and started tearing it apart.”

After fixing up the body work and painting the interior, Rahman lost his previous fabrication and painting job, only to land at Scott Rod Fabrications, a fabricator known for their work on all sorts of Mustangs, Fairmonts, and Mavericks. Once on his feet again, he worked to get the Mustang back on the road, picking Nardo Grey for the color after having everyone else chose green from a hat.

“After sorting out the fitment issues I was about out of time,” said Rahman. “So, I had to decide on a color and get body painted ASAP! Over the next several weeks, I worked on the body and engine bay and getting them in primer and ready for paint. I still hadn’t picked a color. Everyone I asked said green (the original color). We even had everyone pick out of a hat and everyone pulled out green. So, I went to the paint store and got Nardo Grey (lol).”

Though the exterior is European inspired, Rahman’s Fox remains All-American on the inside. Under the hood of Rahman’s Nardo Grey Fox Mustang is a 408 cubic-inch Windsor V8 stroker, delivering 416 horses and 447 lb-ft of torque to the rear pair of 18-inch wheels through a five-speed manual. The pony rides low to the ground, thanks to its adjustable coilovers, and the body is stiffer via upgrades to the subframe connectors.

Though this Mustang may be Nardo Grey, we guarantee there’s never a gray day with this pony on the road.
