Crash Leaves $60K Mustang Hanging from Utility Pole

Driver must have taken the expression ‘hang a left’ to heart. Bizarre accident leaves 2019 Mustang GT hanging from a wire.

And you think you had a bad day? A driver of a 2019 Ford Mustang Fastback GT can top it. She was driving out of a gas station in Melbourne, Australia when she bumped into a utility pole. Her Mustang became ensnared in the wires and was left hanging almost vertically. The utterly strange accident was all captured on CCTV footage.

Luckily, the driver of the $66,000-plus Mustang was able to climb out of the car with the help of firefighters. Thankfully, she did escape any injury. The same cannot be said of her ride.

It is a bit hard to make out what exactly happened. Apparently the unnamed driver lost control the brand new Mustang, went up on the curb, and into the pole. The Mustang then got caught in the wires and it mounted the pole. Eventually, it ended up strung up by wires at a 45-degree angle. The force of the crash caused the pole to shake. Yeah, makes sense. If we had to pick in a Mustang versus pole match up, our money would have gone on the ‘Stang.

The Mustang remained dangling from the wire–tangled up in the car’s undercarriage–for three hours until emergency crews could safely free it.

“(The car) could have gone up and flipped over and landed on the roof,” Mick Childs, spokesman fire department told 7 News. “She could have been trapped inside so it could have been a lot worse. She was a little bit upset but otherwise she was good, probably more upset at causing a bit of damage to the new Mustang.”

And we can certainly understand that, seeing a new Mustang Fastback GT 5.0 hanging from a power pole smashed to bits is a just about the worst ornament we can think of.

Adding insult to injury, the accident itself and rubberneckers created a bad morning traffic jam. Police in the area discouraged passing motorists from filming the scene. Journalist Simon Love tweeted a picture, and added “Two drivers were booked by Victoria Police for using their phones while driving to take a snap of this Mustang.”

We are glad no one was hurt, and hope the pony is back on the road soon. And maybe the driver might get a bit more accustomed to the power of the 5.0L V8. Just a thought.
