Mustang GT Takes Down 300-plus WHP Turbo Honda Civic

Japanese tuner car proves to be no match for American Muscle, as long as you don’t miss any shifts that is.

Two pastimes on the long list of things that never get old are performing pointless burnouts in our cars, and, of course, drag racing on desolate stretches of asphalt. Both of these activities are amply highlighted in this video uploaded by YouTuber ZhayoGT.

After spending the first few minutes of the video attempting to show his female friend how to drive a stick, ZhayoGT and his buddies drive to a deserted drag strip, which is somewhere outside of Sacramento and extremely hot.

As illustrated by the video though, things don’t always go to plan, particularly if you miss an all important second to third gear shift. A very common thing to do in the MT82 transmission, but the host remains dauntless, and gets back on the saddle to try again.

Mustang vs. Civic

What starts off with a good launch ruins the first attempt at a run is killed by poor shifting. “I’m just going to practice launching the car,” he admits in the video. “Because to be honest I don’t know how.”

Mustang vs. Civic

Over the course of the video, there are multiple attempts at smooth launches as well as footage of variety of Hondas racing each other. But as the sun sets, the 411-hp Mustang faces off against a Civic that is turbocharged to supposedly a little over 300-HP to the wheels. Thanks to a smooth launch and no missed shifts, ZhayoGT pulls a couple of car lengths against the souped-up Honda Civic for a solid win to cap off the day.

However, we’d be remiss if we didn’t do our civic (no pun intended) duty and remind everyone that a successful launch is the difference between hanging out at the winner’s circle and having lunch at Gapplebee’s. Practice makes perfect!
