Mustang Bullitt Conquers Isle of Man TT’s Infamous Mountain Road
Ford’s movie car remake is a perfect match for the world’s most dangerous and thrilling motorcycle course.
Even if you’re not a die-hard motorcycle racing fan, you’ve probably at least heard of the Isle of Man TT. Taking place on the breathtaking roads of a tiny country located between England and Ireland, most see the event as the absolute pinnacle of two-wheeled racing. IOM’s 37.73-mile “Mountain Course” is one of the most challenging in the world, and one of the most dangerous. But that didn’t stop Ford from taking a new Mustang Bullitt across the pond and wringing it out.
It’s just the latest effort in Ford’s series to draw our attention to some of the greatest driving roads in the world. Previous videos featured the GT hitting the Atlantic Ocean Road in Norway and a Fiesta ST conquering Via Campocatino in Italy. This time around, journalist Steve Sutcliffe was lucky enough to pedal a Mustang Bullitt around IOM’s breathtaking roads. Needless to say, he rather enjoyed the experience.
“It doesn’t matter how many times you watch films about the legendary Isle of Man TT course,” he says. “Because until you come here and drive it for yourself, you’ll never fully understand just how incredible it is. How they do what they do on the bikes, I just don’t know. Because in this car, it feels fantastically fast. It’s amazing this road, it really is.”
Open to the public 365 days a year and devoid of silly things like speed limits, the Mountain Course is easily accessible, too. But in this case, Sutcliffe and his Bullitt had the road all to themselves. Still, our driver found the circuit to be quite the challenge. Albeit an enjoyable one.
“Sometimes you just feel like you’ve hit the nail on the head,” he says. “Coming to the perfect road to suit a car. And I think this road suits the Bullitt like no other.” Now we just need to figure out how to ship our ride over there.
