Mustang 50th anniversary

How much weight do Mustang enthusiasts hold? Well, apparently a lot, even outside of the automotive world.

Estimates indicate that the recent gathering of 50,000 Mustang fans in Concord, NC for the pony car’s 50th Anniversary celebration added about $8.3 million to the economy in Cabarrus County, according to an Independent Tribune report.

The estimations are based on results gathered from the Destination Marketing Association International, which calculates spending based on room nights and other criteria. The results are based on an estimated 9,600 room nights used by visitors during the event, which was held from April 15 through April 20.

Roughly $5 million of the $8.3 million was spent directly on things like buying an item from a store, or eating at a restaurant. The other three million came from indirect sales in the area.
