More GT350 News Trickling Out

Mustang SVT GT350 Spy Shots (1)

So much of the news lately has been devoted to the muscle car explosion bonanza that is Dodge with both its Hellcats, that the original pony car has been lost in the shuffle — especially when the rumors and news coming out have actually been pretty interesting.

First off, while we reported on how the GT350 was caught testing at the Nürburgring, we neglected to inform you that it, like many other cars before it, almost met its fate while running around the infamous track. The car nearly crashed right around km 18 at the Schwalbenschwanz turn. It’s an area that many cars tend to start drifting at. It just so happened that the GT350 wanted to keep drifting and spun the test driver around, which had to be a bit of a pucker, especially since it was the prototype. Unlike the NSX, which burned to the ground, the GT350 regained composure and continued on.

Then a rumor started circulating that the GT350 wants to be marketed against Chevy’s Z/28, but unlike the Z/28 with its $75,000 asking price, a couple of insiders believe the new super ‘Stang will be priced more according to the Boss 302 that was around for a bit a few years ago, so around the $45-50k range. If true, that would severely undercut the Chevy offering, and will likely be a better car now that the details have been revealed from Chevy about the Z/28. Ford can essentially use it as a benchmark, and improve its offering from there.

I sincerely hope the price remains right around there because the rumors coming out of Toyota about the new Supra peg it at that same price level. This means I’m going to have a heck of a decision to make if both come out that low in price. Fingers crossed, people!
