Leaked 2024 Mustang GT Window Sticker Shows No Power Increase
New and improved? Not so fast.
The new 2024 Mustang reveal was a hotly anticipated event in the Mustang community. After all, the S500 is so great, how would you go about topping it? Once we all saw the 2024 for the first time, it was almost immediately clear that the design was evolutionary, not revolutionary.
The front and rear are very different, but the side profile is very similar. Simply put, there’s still a lot of S550 in there. That’s a good thing, as far as we’re concerned. However, we understand the disappointment some Mustang fans felt after expecting an all-new car.
The aggressive front and rear styling of the new car is polarizing. We’re expecting to like it more in person than in renderings. Remember, there was a time when many of us disliked the 2018 facelift of the S550, too. Now, we’ve grown to love it – it’s one of our favorite Mustangs of all time.
Power Play
Enough about the looks, though. Recently, Nico Demattia over at The Drive got his hands on a copy of a 2024 Mustang GT window sticker. Despite numerous upgrades to the Coyote 5.0 liter engine – dual throttle bodies, dual air intakes, and upgraded exhaust manifolds – the power figure quoted on the window sticker remains at 450. That’s the same as the outgoing car, after a 2022 emissions updated lowered power from 460 to 450.
Keep in mind that this is an early, leaked window sticker. That power figure may change as the car reaches production and may not even be correct. We already know that the Dark Horse will make 500 horsepower, but we’re somewhat surprised by the quoted number for the new GT.
One likely possibility is that the details of the new engine haven’t been finalized yet. The existing power figure may just be a placeholder on the window sticker. After all, this is a leaked sticker – we were never even supposed to see it.
Another possibility is that the GT’s quoted horsepower might be intentionally underrated for insurance purposes, a practice that dates back to the muscle car era. This is far less likely, though. Either way, we’ll have to wait a while to learn the truth. We’ve still got one more year of production for the excellent S550 platform, and that’s just fine by us.
