2020 HENNESSEY GT500 VENOM 1200

Pick your poison (ahem, Venom) with 850, 1,000, and 1,200 horsepower packages for the brand spankin’ new GT500.

The all-new 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 hasn’t even landed on dealer lots yet. But that hasn’t stopped the aftermarket from developing parts for Ford’s latest and greatest snake. And even though we don’t know exactly how fast the new GT500 will be (well, kinda), it’s obvious that a handful of folks will work to make it even faster. That includes the mad scientists over at Hennessey Performance, who recently pulled the covers off their insanely modified versions of the bespoke pony.

Like an appetizing buffet, Hennessey offers up three different versions of their “Venom” package for the GT500 – the 850, 1000, and 1200. As you might’ve already guessed, each number denotes the level of power that each respective package produces. That means the “lesser” of the three packages produces 850 hp and 725 lb-ft of torque. Extracting that extra 85 ponies isn’t terribly hard, either. Hennessey achieves that power with the addition of stainless steel long tube headers, high-flow catalytic converters, and supercharger tweaks involving a pulley and billet upgrade and machine porting.

Next up, the Venom 1000 produces an even 1,000 hp and 850 lb-ft of torque. Hennessey begins with the 850’s upgrades, but ditches the factory supercharger in this case. They replace the stock huffer with a larger 3.0-liter unit. They then install a new intercooler, fuel pumps, and complete a “transmission upgrade.” Whatever that entails.

The most extreme of the Hennessey GT500 trio, the Venom 1200, ditches its supercharger altogether in favor of a pair of turbos. Upgraded pistons and rods help contain the copious amounts of boost required to produce 1,200 hp and 1,000 lb-ft of torque. All three Venom GT500s are equipped with embroidered headrests, badges, plaques, and serial numbers. The 850 comes with a three-year, 36,000-mile warranty, while the 1000 and 1200 receive a shorter 1-year, 12,000 mile guarantee.

No word on what any of these three Hennessey beasts will cost. Nor what sort of performance numbers they’re capable of. But we’d imagine that all of those enticing figures will drop in the coming months once the GT500 begins delivery. If nothing else, it’s clear that the stock car’s 760 hp is just the beginning of what promises to be one wild and exciting journey.
