Iconic Ford GT40 liveries from 24 Hours of Daytona 1966 inspire Roush supercharged S550 Mustang, and it’s going to one lucky winner.

If you are at all adept in current automotive culture, you have likely heard the name, Larry Chen. He is an iconic photographer, shooting for everything you could imagine in the car world. His Instagram account is full of amazing photographs of many amazing cars.

Chen was allowed to customize a car for SEMA that will ultimately be given away via sweepstakes. Chen decided to go with a Mustang from Galpin Auto Sports and based it on a render by concept artist  Khyzyl Saleem. Saleem is known for his incredibly realistic automotive renders that leave you questioning whether or not they are real. His original render featured a lowered Mustang with turbofan wheels up front and a livery reminiscent of the GT40s that finished first, second, and third at the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1966.

Slammed GT40 Inspired Mustang

“This was my first ever American car build, and I was told that I can pretty much do whatever I wanted, but it had to be street legal because this is a giveaway car, and you can actually win it. It’s 6mt, and it has a Roush Supercharger putting out 700hp,” said Chen.

The car was brought to life by Galpin Auto Sports, a California based custom shop that is quite known for its crazy custom Mustangs. They also built many of the cars on the show Pimp My Ride, but we’ll let that slide.

Custom GT40 Inspired Mustang

The GT40 MK IIs seen at Daytona in 1966 wore a red, white and black livery. This Mustang is inspired by those cars, though the livery has a little more flair. Additionally, the turbofan wheels are a classic functional design. They pull air from beneath the vehicle to create extra downforce and cool the brakes. The covers on this Mustang were custom made to fit over the Fifteen52 wheels.

On the whole, this Mustang is a work of art. Though your chance to enter to win it has come and gone, if you happen to be at SEMA, you can see it in person before it moves on to its new owner.
