Shelby Mustang GT350R Just as Fast as Porsche 911 GT3

Ford vs. Porsche, a history that goes back to the dawn of…wait, what was that? Ford vs. Porsche? Can that actually be uttered in the same sentence? Do the Germans know this is happening? Will we be invaded by upset Germans if we say it again? Well, whether they like it or not, the two can be uttered in the same sentence now, thanks to the Shelby Mustang GT350R.

As we learned from the video below, the new GT350R is hugely fast around a racetrack. However, we didn’t know exactly how fast it was. Until now. According to AutoEvolution, Ford recently took the new track hardened Mustang to Grattan Raceway to shake it down a bit more, before it goes on sale. However, while at the racetrack, Ford invited something a bit more German to tag along to see just how fast the new GT350R really is.

Ford says that while lapping Grattan, the new GT350R was just as fast as a Porsche 911 GT3, and a full second faster than the outgoing Camaro Z/28. If proven true, this will be a major black-eye to said Germans and their astronomically more expensive 911 GT3. With a starting price of just $61,370, the new GT350R Mustang is less than half what it costs to get a base 911 GT3. And it’s almost $10,000 less than the Camaro Z/28.
