Does a tuned Shelby GT350 have what it takes to outpace Alfa Romeo’s Quadrifoglio?

One of the cars that we rarely see out having a bit of fun on the highway is Alfa Romeo’s new Giulia Quadrifoglio sedan. Packing 505 horsepower, it is not slow by any means, so it’s time it got put to the test with some roll races. Drag Times puts it up against a GT350, tuned to run E85 fuel and making about 500 horsepower. So far it is an odd-ball, but even match, even if the Alfa is lighter by just a tiny bit.

Before the races start there’s one thing that’s obvious: the Mustang can blow your ears off! Asking for a bit of a rev causes people to plug their ears and back away from the car! You can even hear it over the Alfa regardless of which car is doing the filming. Wind noise? You won’t hear it over that V8 exhaust note.

With bite to match its bark, the GT350 and Quadrifoglio line up for a few roll races and in every single one, the GT350 just manages to walk away from it. Maybe the GT350 was making more than 500 horsepower after all.

It’s said the Quadrifoglio will be back for more after a tune, and that could be a very potent upgrade. As we know, turbocharged cars take to tunes far better than an NA engine, and from a dig, the Alfa could have a real chance.

Even though the Alfa is an automatic, it’s an eight-speed ZF unit with launch control and that could put it at a significant advantage. The only unfortunate part is that it’s near impossible to find one that will line up at a drag strip.
