Fox Body-Based Ferrari Kit Car Screams Dayto-NO
There’s a limit to the embarrassment we can handle, and this “Ferrari Kit Car” maxes us out.
The Fox Mustangs have never been regarded as the prettiest cars, but this is ridiculous. Apparently, at some point there was a group of people for which this kit made sense. Not only was there someone crazy enough to make a business case for making a fiberglass kit to poorly replicate the look of Ferrari’s famed Daytona out of an ’80s Mustang, but presumably there was someone silly enough to pay actual money for such a kit, and then stuck with the idea long enough to assemble the project, paint it, and eventually drive it. We’re not sure what caused them to finally come to their senses, but they must have recently recovered from a vision-distorting disease, because now they’re attempting to sell the car.
At the very least, this car does have a five-liter, so it’s still probably quite fun to drive, but it’d be difficult to get over those looks. It’d still drive like a Mustang, which is the good part. With all of those body panels being crafted from fiberglass, it might even be a little bit lighter than a stock five-point-oh. We guess you don’t have to look at the outside of the car from the driver’s seat, but you might have to deal with all of the confused stares from passers-by.

Starting at the front, the Daytona-style nose sits far too high for the rest of the body lines. The side skirts are also somewhat incongruous with the Mustang’s door lines, not to mention the fiberglass is cracked and bent out from the body. In the back, the Ferrari-style rounded boat tail just doesn’t work with the Mustang’s slab-sides and angular sheet metal. The rigid fabric removable top was likely one time a really interesting novelty piece, but today it looks a bit haggard. We wouldn’t be opposed to the wood and tan vinyl interior if the builders hadn’t scrawled Ferrari logos all over them.
It’s a look not even a mother could love, but what do you think about it? If you’re interested, it’s available on Craigslist in Minneapolis for $6,900.
