Font Squeaks - Either Koni or Steeda HD

I lowered my car about two weeks ago and installed P spring, Konis Str Struts and Steeda HD mounts. The driver side has been plagued with a squeak ever since. I tore it all own greased ever thing, reassembled and the squeak disappeared for about two weeks. Then it came back today as bad as ever.

Frustrated I took it to Ford and the tech was nice enough to help me identify where the noise was coming from, the top of the drivers side strut. So its narrowed down to being one of these two items. I followed Steeda's instructions to the "T" during install. I have tried everything I can think of to fix this.

My next guess is to take the drivers side strut mount off change it to a Ford one and see if that fixes it. If it does its the Steeda HD's if not its the strut. Or at least thats my logic.

Has anyone had a similar problem? I tried searching and can't seem to locate much info on the Steeda HD's squeaking and anything I turn up on the Koni's squeaking seems to usually be caused by something else. Any help is very much appreciated.

Could it be a bad bushing/lower control arms?

Not the sway bar or any busing lower than where the spring sits on the strut. Was able to turn the wheels and get close enough to where the noise is coming from. If you bounce the front end you can hear it in the top of the strut area. The harder you bounce the louder it is.

The first time I tried tracking it down I dissasembled every thing used white lithium grease on all the points of contact and then reassembled it all. That took care of the noise for about two weeks.

I checked all the bolts and everything is tight. I also reached in and griped the end link while the car was being bounced and that didn't stop it either.

Is that the proper spring isolator? The correct GT500 piece is notched for the spring coil....That isolator looks different (and likely the source)
Don't forget to orient the Steeda plate correctly

It should be the correct isolators. I ordered them directly from Ford. I have attached pictures of the Isolators and the Steeda Mounts being assembled. Please let me know if these don't look correct or like I missed something.

I just intalled mine and it squeaks also. I took off the Steeda HDmounts and installed a new set of 2010 upper strut mounts.....it still squeaks.

I think it may be a defective front strut. It only happens when driving over bumps and dips. Im so bummed out.

Its the front lower control arm bushing most likely.

Ok, so I took the front apart piece by piece this weekend. I have verified it is the Steeda HD mount squeaking. I shot video of the squeak i will be posting to Youtube. I replaced the drivers side strut mount with the Shelby strut mounts and the squeak is completely gone. Car rides and handles great.

I still have the passenger side Steeda mount on the vehicle and I am currently trying to work with both CJ and Steeda to see what I need to do about getting the squeaky part fixed.

As a side not I noticed a creak/groan in the front suspension while I was in there and applied a bit of white lithium grease to the Lower control arm and it seemed to knock that out as well.

I will update once I find out what they say about the part. Hopefully this helps other out who are having a similar issue.

Got a question. What does that under the black cap on top of your shock do for the the suspension? Adjustment? Thanks in advance.

The black cap appears to be just a cover. Nothing fancy but it seemed to look better with than without, so I transferred it from the old strut to new. Under it is a hex style area where you can place a wrench to keep the strut from spinning while you tighten the main nut down. Hope that helps.

So as promised this is the link for the video of the squeak that turned out to be the Steeda HD mount:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZE4kDMhxzg

When I swapped over to the GT500 mount on the drivers side the squeak is completely gone. I still to date do not know what on the Steeda mount was squeaking.

On a side note Steeda has been EXTREMELY helpful and nice about getting this taken care of. I called last week and spoke to them, they offered suggestions about verifying it. Once it was verified I called today and spoke to Steeda again and they emailed me the warranty information and told me to send it in and they would send me a new one. Must say I am pleased so far with their service in this problem.

Now CJ Pony Parts Customer service has been another matter they informed me today on the phone that a "Squeak" was normal and to be expected with this part. That is not a "Normal sound in my opinion.

Definately strut mounts squeaking, sounds metal to metal contact.

I installed a set of Koni STR.T's with a set of GT500 mounts, and my driver side is making that exact noise. I guess the mount must be bad

I have the squeaks on my rear right. Lowered on H&R Super Sport and Koni STR.T. Now it looks like it may be the sway bar bushing.
