Brake Options for our V6's
I thought I would start a thread on this, I have seen some posts from people that have been to the track that our stock brakes are....
.... "wimpy".
Well, with all of our focus on making power, I'm wondering if upgraded brakes will actually help our launch by power braking. I can't find many options for brake ideas, perhaps GT take offs. Here is what I found so far:

With more and more of us getting into power adders, I'm really thinking we should start looking into this upgrade, though not as glamorous as a super charger or gears. LOL.
But I am really re-thinking that my next set of upgrades should be focused on launches, that being brakes, than some lca's.

I disagree with calling them wimpy. If you want to launch an auto at higher rpms, you need a higher stall converter, period. As far as stopping power, I think they work really well. But that's just my opinion.

Cool, thanks man! What about power braking, will they help with that. Hambone found some nice GT take offs for cheap at Saleen's web site:

Thanks, I'll look into those. My main thoughts here are power braking, and also being safe at the track. Scrming recently posted that he needs most of the track to slow down. So with my first track run comming up in the spring (i won't be on the bottle on my first run of course), I want to have proper stopping power.

wilwood brakes are pretty sweet...if Ken Gushi uses it on his drift stang...it must be good...
i was thinking of changing my brakes too...i did see that special on the saleen site for the GT brakes. They are just an inch bigger than our stock v6s. I was just thinking of some powerslot rotors. They seem like a genuine brand for brake rotors. I dont know if i could spend 1 grand on a brake system...maybe if i took it to a track every other weekend...

I remember reading somewhere that pads will really make a difference. If you didn't want to go all out and buy an entire brake set, I'd try out some hawk brake pads and see if they meet your needs with the stock rotors first

Thats a really good idea, I want to have better stopping power at the track. So I think I will go that route. And perhaps some LCA's and I will be good to go for track season.
Has anyone tried EBC green stuff or any other aftermarket front pads yet? The pads have a lot to do with it, the front rotors(let alone rear vented rotors) should be more then adequate for use other then severe autocross, just changing the compound of the pads should do wonders. Its not like the old model with the little coaster brakes. Its a $65 dollar solution for most people without wasting too much money. I would guarantee its more effective then a stock GT setup swap out, the fractional increase in sweep area does not beat changing pad compounds. I couldn't see needing more pistons or larger rotors for a car thats not in the mid 12's or faster just to stop after the 1/4.
Cool, well at this point I think I'm definitely going with some pads. Then I will post results on stopping distances at the track.
I trapped at 92 mph, and safely stopped to make the first turnout.
The braking power is there, but to me the main point to upgrade would be to prevent brake fade if abusing the brakes, or if you want to try out road racing then it's a must.

Hot Rod has a project car with a brakes upgrade and the Baer brakes website has some good info. What I took away, bigger brakes, at some point, don't provide more braking power, they just resist fad better. They can hurt you with added weight. Tires and pads have a greater impact on stopping distances. Slots or drilling brakes have questionable if any impact. Probably more show than go. Drilling can actually hurt performance and weaken the disc. The GT's brakes need 17" wheels. 14" brakes will need 18" wheels or better.

These 'must have' Six Pot calipers have been revamped the past year or so and are now known as an FNSL6- Forged, Narrow, Super Lite Six.

The FNSL6 is no longer a machined billet body but a full stress flowed billet forging that offers a stiffer design, better looks, pre applied powder coat finish and a LOWER final cost!
