When I'm driving (car's warm) and I'm coasting or going under 5 mph, when I press on the gas the rpm's jump to over 2k and then the car goes.

I have an automatic. It's my first automatic. I don't think the transmission is slipping, but maybe that's what it is. I'm taking my car to Ford next week with a list of issues, but I don't want to describe the problems, I'd rather tell them what it is (like I have a clue what I'm talking about).

This problem occurs when I'm stopped at a light and then go, or when I'm getting onto the highway and I'm going slow and then press on the gas. I don't accelerate hard, I'm really gentle with the car at all times.

Thanks for help on this one.

Hey Lorrie,

Are you sure that what you are feeling is not the Drive By Wire technology hesitation? The 05 does not have a throttle cable attached to the accelerator. It is a electronic sensor that tells the throttle body when to open and close.

I have an AOD and it does the same thing and is darn annoying. The only real way to get past this is to get it tuned by a dyno shop or use a handheld tuning device.

How may miles are on this car? Has it been like this since you got it in June?

Jennifer

I don't understand all the fuss about this.

Guys, thats NOT a problem. Its DBW all the way. PLUS, I don't understand why you would want the car to JUMP when you press the throttle. In the auto trans, ESPECIALLY with O/D on, you are going to HAVE to expect some lag from the downshifting...that rev is just the car smoothly changing gears or providing itself with power to keep the car moving.

I love the mini lag when i step on my car...im afraid that, after I tune it, the throttle will be too jumpy. I hope not...

The car has 5000 miles on it. I noticed it a few times in the beginning but it is getting worse. It happens, not every time, but maybe 20-25% of the time when I'm going slowly (coasting) and then accelerate.

I don't want the car to jump. When I press on the gas, I want the car to move.

If it were it a stick, I'd know I was giving it too much gas and then simply releasing the clutch. That my balance was off, but since it is an auto ...

Yeah, it's like the car is in neutral when I'm coasting and then when I press the gas, it revs and then goes into gear. That describes it pretty well.

I don't downshift the car. I don't put it in neutral. This is a mechanical issue and not driver error.

:nono: Your not getting me. The auto transmission obviously downshifts by itself. When you are CRUISING, the trans is in its last gear for optimal milaege. When you step on the throttle, the trans SMOOTHLY revs the engine up, changes the gear, and keeps moving. It feels like its in neutral, and thats only because, just like a stickshift driver would do, the computer revmatches the gearing (kind of.) Maybe you can take a video of it and show me, but otherwise, I am putting my money on myself here...theres no problem with your car.

Disconnect the battery for a few minutes to clear the PCM. IF that does not fix it, take it to the dealer. The symptom your are describing is a downshift solenoid lag time issue. If a reset does not work, insist on a replacement dolenoid pack. My company has been remanufacturing the 5R55S for two years. It is not normal and not related to DBW technology.

I second that.
This is my 4th automatic and probably the 20th different I've driven so far. In older automatic trannies you had just the kickdown lag, later models added a few 1/10s of a second due to the DBW lag. I's all perfectly normal.
Say you're cruising at 60 with OD on (you're in 5th gear). If you slam the gas pedal and keep it to the floor, the car computer will first register the sudden change, then react by downshifting to 3rd and finally opening the throttle. Hence, the 0.5-1.0 seconds of delay from the "pedal to the metal" until the computer agrees and complies.
Not a sporty behavior, but hey, that's what manuals are for, right?

My car does the same thing. Its not a issue. We have been through this issue with your car before. They all do it! Push harder on the accelerator and move on.

On second thought. You have seemed to have nothing but problems with the car since you got it. Trade it on a BMW or something more suitable. Just my opinion.
