Hood Liner

Hi,

My UK Mustang GT has a hood liner. I'm pretty sure when I drove a 2015 GT in Georgia it didn't have one. Can anyone confirm that US Mustangs, S550s have a liner or not? I've read it's for sound proofing, a heat shield and a fire protectorm I'm not sure what to believe,. is it required as I'd like more engine noise if the interior if that's all it is there for.

Thanks
Mark

Thanks for the reply. We don't have the hood vents due to EU law, and was wondering if the liner was allowing heat to build up? I may be way off but curious to know why these liners are there.
cheers.

Did a search, and looks like the hood liners are to dissipate the heat so that the hood doesn't get too hot and prevent the paint from fading or peeling.

I've heard the thing that if the engine catches fire, the plastic tabs melt, which drop the hood liner on the fire. I call BS on this. By the time the fire gets big enough to melt all the tabs, it's probably spread much further than the engine bay.

I removed it to have a look and the pony emblem appeared. I had to use high exposure to show the pony. I guess you know about this but it made me smile.

Interesting that they stamped that there when it isn't meant to be seen.

Probably did it for those with show cars. One more little advertising piece.

But that's cool. Never knew.

It's supposed to ghost the pony onto the hood when it's cold outside

Yeh most odd. I know a lot of UK owners have removed the hood liner completely. I'm trying mine without as a Mustang specialist has run his for two years without the liner. I'll see if there's any more engine noise with it. Probably not really discernible but I'll see. I've seen one painted which looks great. Apparently when your car has frost on it the pony is the first to warm so it melts the frost on the bonnet leaving the pony. I like little things like that!

But wait. Wouldn't it be upside down on the outside, if the frost reason is the real reason?

I still say it for those who pull off the liners, the frost thing was just a consequence.

I didn't know about Audi having them. My A4 has a liner so no idea if it's under there.
