Thought I would like to get rid of the hood prop and replace it with a set of hood struts. Wondering how the after market struts are holding up with some use. (No pun intended) I was looking at the Redline quicklift plus struts. Any input would be appreciated.
I have a set I bought from American Muscle with the Ford Performance logo [ not Redlines ] about a year ago on my 14 GT, so far so good. They don't raise the hood quite as far as the prop rod if that matters to you. The body end of the strut mounts to the rear near the cowl so generally lots of room to work.
Just installed the Ford Performance ones on my '17 last night.
The only part that sucks with the install is that you'll have to drill a hole in the battery cover. And the sucky part about that is, it needs to be more than an inch wide. The step drill bits for an 1in or larger are harder to find in the store, and when you do, they're **** expensive.
But the hood struts on a '17 will hold the hood open the exact same amount as the prop rod, if not the tiniest more.
Like I said, just installed last night. But they work with the couple times I've opened and closed. Make sure you have a firm grip on the hood when closing because about half way day, they have zero strength, and the hood will drop.
Wow, that looks pretty good. There are other sets out there that require mounting holes to be drilled into the hood itself, but that setup looks like you didn't have to do that.

The only drilling is the hole that's needed in the battery cover to access the mounting point. That part sucks. And really, if you do it the way that they instruct you to, you can't remove the battery cover completely without disconnecting the strut. Saw someone completely take a notch out of the cover so that you can slip it on and off. I may do that.
But uses the available bolts for the hood, and mounts into a hole that already in the quarter panel.
I cut the battery cover from the mounting hole to the outside edge about an inch and a half. Hardly noticeable and now the cover can be removed without undoing the strut.
