Hey everybody!

Can you please advice - when you buy a new cluster, mileage and VIN code is programmed at cluster center. But when you buy used cluster, can mileage and VIN be also programmed by a local dealer?

I was just wondering, I have found used cluster but as my car has only 18K miles on it, I want to keep my mileage.

I don't know for sure , but I don't think they're allowed to change the milage on a used cluster. You might want to call a local dealership to be sure ...

 

Thanks. Yes, that's what I was worried about. I don't believe they can do it either. I called the local dealer but they did not gave me a clear answer. Problem is, I am from EU and mustangs are pretty rare here. Local Ford boys mostly do not have any experiences with these cars. He told me they can try to do that, but he cannot say it will work as they never did anything like this before.

 

I desperately wanna do this mod as I hate the standard green gauges. How do the additional two gauges know to function if the original only has two in the middle? Did they just run off of what the ecm is telling it?

 

The information is available in the car's computer, just can't be displayed with the old cluster.

Just did my swap yesterday to test it out, literally took maybe 6 minutes total and works flawlessly, started right up. Just have to get to Ford dealer for them to flash the gauges with my mileage. The gauges are only off by roughly 2500 miles but enough to bug me and technically be illegal lol.

 

Just got quoted anywhere from $50-$150 to chant the mileage from a local car electronics shop.

Ford Dealers CAN NOT CHANGE MILEAGE!

That is Reserved For Cluster Repair Services! So With That Being Said!

Going Used It's Best to get As Close to Original Mileage If Possible!

Unless You Don't Care or You Are Prepared To Send Off Cluster To Have Mileage Reset.
