I have to call someone Monday because they are making tons of mounds outside and they are coming in after the dogs food
The thing with fire ants is you can never really get rid of them. At best all I every managed to do was annoy them enough with pesticide granules using a broadcast spreader and then some mound control bait enough that they would just die or go to the neighbors yards.
And now is the time to get rid of them. They are finding food and going deeper into the ground to ride out the winter and rainy months.
I've been meaning to do something about mine but have been too lazy or tired. Stupid yard is too big. I've got about an acre of actual yard that's landscaped and mowed around the house and they are out there. Especially in the flower beds. And all the pesticides aren't cheap.

My cousin lives on the coast and he bought some stuff from the exterminator that kills the **** out of ants. It was DuPont Advion (I think) only 6 or 8 grains of it on a fire ant hill will kill them off. It wasn't cheap, but it was super effective. Really good stuff. He bought 2 pounds of it for like $40 and the bug guy said it would last about 2 years.

I've gotten rid of a few mounds but more are popping up! I hate ants

$40 isn't bad if it really works!

I've got the name written down, I'll have to look for it, but I think it was DuPont Advion. I came in a jug of granules, he said to only put 8 or so pellets on a mound. He did, and they came boiling out, picked it up, and took it back down to the queen.

Bro-in-law used to work for Dupont at the Alabama plant where they make that ant killer. He says it sterilizes the queen and then the colony dies
