11) Was Kansas covered by an ocean at one time?
Kansas has been covered by a series of seas, some deep, some shallow. During the Pennsylvanian and Permian periods of geologic history, from 320 to 245 million years ago, a series of seas, most only a few tens of feet deep, came and went across the state numerous times. These seas left behind layers of limestone and other rocks that contain fossils of marine animals. During the Cretaceous Period, a large seaway covered the western half of the state. This sea, several hundred feet deep, left behind the chalk that crops out in west-central Kansas, along with common vertebrate fossils.

Heh. I knew somebody was going to say that. ![Stick Out Tongue](https://themustangsource.com/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
It certainly looked that way to a land-locked flyover country guy like myself. There was a brief, weak storm that came through with an intense wind shift line and the lake went absolutely nuts for about an hour. It doesn't really come across in the photos, but those were some of the biggest swells I've ever seen over there.

Any recommendations on a lens for fireworks? I'll be at the beach during the 4th and plan on renting the Canon 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS I rented last year. I figure that should be able to handle it, but since I only have one evening to get it right, i'm curious if anyone has any experience and/or suggestions for capturing them??

One of the local studios is going out of business so a group of us pitched in and rented the place out for the day... I call in some of my 501st friends and took some photos!
