evil cat
Here is an evil cat and a slightly less evil cat.
At first I was going to delete this photo, but I'm kinda glad I did not. Now I think it looks like they might have some very evil super powers...

I have a wedding coming up on Saturday. I'm still learning my camera and now i'm off to try some indoor shots at the wedding. As some of you know, I have a Canon 40D. Since I don't have a flash yet all i'll have is the one built in. I'm also in the wedding and can't expirment with a zillion shots one after the other to make sure I get it right. I'll be handing it over to my aunt while i'm 'busy' performing my best man duties. So, any suggestions for settings to use for this type event while I can't pay attention to it?

I will tell you, without an additional flash and or a really fast lens I think you will be VERY disappointed in the quality of indoor basically unlit photographs. I know for **** sure I am.
I would suggest you make sure there is another photographer there so no one is PO'd if you don't get too many good photos.

There will be a regular photographer there doing their thing.
I've been playing around tonight a bit using the built in flash and they seem to come out pretty decent. The rehersal is Friday night so that will be a good test before the real thing.

You'll get yelled at for using the real flash inside during the ceremony. Even real photogs wont do that. its very distracting. Your best bet is just setting it on A at a medium to high ISO (1600 prob) and putting at the lowest aperature setting so your lens will try to shoot as fast as it can for the amount of light coming in.
Soemone correct me if im wrong.

There were no issues with taking pictures during the ceremony. In fact, any wedding i've been to there has never been a problem taking flash pics. The minister here was great and even let someone with a video camera know where to be for the best shots!
So, I took all my pics. I went crazy and took 612 of them! Yikes!! Out of all them about 100 were throw aways and a few others borderline.
The built in flash worked better than expected, but i'm sure no where near what a real flash would have accomplished.
Auto focusing was an issue since it was dark at the reception. I also have auto focusing issues in the light too, so I need to work on that. Could be me, the lens, or maybe a bum camera?
Pics all have a yellowish tint to them. I blame lighting and flash. I'm sure a fliter would have fixed that.
Overall the final results were better than expected. I did bring a batch to Walmart and get them printed out. The actual prints came out a lot darker than on my monitor. So now I wonder if it's Walmarts processing or my monitor is just bright.
I'll post a few samples soon.

A filter would've just robbed you of that much more light. Your best bet may have been setting the white balance to tungsten or grabbing a custom setting off a white napkin or something.
