bit tough to spot, but when you do, be glad you saw it instead of stepping on it.

One reason I'm glad I don't live in the south. Never have to worry about that around here.

You got that right, but if I did accidentally step on a snake, I'd prefer it to be a copperhead instead of a rattlesnake.

Copperheads and timber rattlers are known to be around here.

That's another reason I left Missouri. Might as well be backpacking the Ozarks with land mines hidden all around.

The only snakes at my altitude here in the Cascades are a few garters in the summer. Too cold at night for rattlers. Do have a few small dark blue scorpions though under a log occassionally.

I remember coming back from a scouting trip in October (Missouri) and one stretch of the highway had 13 copperheads in a half mile stretch. Warming themselves on the pavement at dusk. One place had 3 together and we pulled over with the headlights on them. My dad's friend got out with a shotgun to shoot one and the other two starting towards him!! He shot the 2nd one and raced to the car to avoid the 3rd.

Danged double barrels!

The only good thing about a copperhead is they are not very aggressive unless you **** them off. I've stepped on a few when I was younger. Never had one strike at me until you poke them with a stick a few times. Now cotton mouths, water moccasins as we call them, are just evil bastards. Those things will charge you for no reason.

I hate those damm things. Gotta be one of the most aggressive snakes ever. I've had a couple drop out of trees in the boat while fishing. You make a life decision at that moment. Abandon ship or go into battle. Both decisions suck. Lol
