Last month for me was $306. Winter runs $400-$500 a month with electric heat. Summer with two A/C and a pool runs about $350.

That's understandable, but I'm in Ca we don't get very hot or very cold. Although this last summer was up there: end of the world up there. Lol

holy crap you guys have high energy bills! We get pissed at the apartment when our bill is over $75. Even at the house, we keep a medium sized 2 story house at a pretty cool temp and the bill isn't usually over $100

Propane heat and an on demand water heater here.

Electric bill is $300 on average. Maybe less. Actually its about $300-350 in summer and about $200 in winter.

6 people, water well that seems like the pump is always running, dryer that never stops running and we cook a lot at home. I keep AC on 73. 2 units. Plus there's the garage AC that runs all the time you know to climatize the cars. Kids never turn a light off or a TV. They seem to think money grows on trees.

Anyway. We're it not for the measures I took it could be much much worse.

Our rates are about $0.09 per kilowatt.

Did I mention it's a 3700 sq.ft. house with a 1000 sq. ft. garage.

Supposedly the NW has cheap power. I looked at my bill to get a quick comparison. Get a load of this:

The following are per kwh:
Delivery chg: .0373
Supply energy chg .0532
Energy Conservation chg .0026
JC Boyle, Copco & Iron Gate Dam Removal .00134
BPA Columbia River discount -.0053
After an hour of math, it looks like $0.089 per kwh.

But wait, there's more...

Plus Low income assistance flat rate of .85
Plus Basic Chg $9.00
Plus Public purpose .0300

Jebus, talk about a shell game!

OK, try it the easy way $53.69/474kw used = .1133/kwh

Crooks!

It's actually .0933/kw with a $15.00 monthly member charge.

Our power comes from a natural gas power plant up the road and of course those prices are low now. Back when NG was selling at $12.00/mcuft they did charge us a fuel surcharge but that was short lived.

My wells about 90 ft. deep.

Just a well head out there and the tank and water softener are in a storage room that has outside access on the house. I will be building a well house shortly to protect the well. It froze when the house was being built because of the cold winter before last. Last winter never got below freezing so I lucked out. Probably won't get so lucky this winter. Need to get it protected. When I do I'm gonna put the well tank back out there in a shed that will also house the mower. And I'll be doing away with the softener and going to the new Aquasana filter system instead. Plumbing supplier is giving me a unit so i can see how it works and make recommendations to our customers.

I'm thinking about a reverse osmosis unit for the house. Just gotta make sure it filters out all the contaminants.
