Hello pot, meet kettle. I think this is just an example of the South still being home to the poorest educated states in the Union. I don't believe I ever said, the North was better than the South. I said I am proud to be from the North, they same way y'all are proud to be from the South. You know all the Southern by the grace of God crap you love so much. I have to agree with Nathan here. I have been on AFM, S197 Forum, TMS, MM, MF, S550 forum, SVTP, traveled all over the country, North and South and I have never met people who think their **** doesn't stink as I have with some people here. I mean 99.9999% of the time everyone in this thread is cool and we all have a good time BSing, but ****. All this regional crap is probably just as bad as it was in 1864.

We're still waiting on the South to do something monumental outside of being a bastion of the Democratic party, fostering racial tensions that we are still currently dealing with, being treasonous and attacking the United States, Disneyland & not being the birth home of Hillary Clinton.

I can't believe I am actually defending unions since they have taken quite a bit of business away from us and I think most of them have gotten too big to serve their function. Politically speaking I am much closer to having Southern like tendencies so I know where you all are coming from and for the most part have been playing Devil's Advocate except for being proud to be a Northerner. That being said, it has been shown that RTW states have lower wages, spend less on educating employees, have worse safety records, higher injury rates, & they tend to do worse economically then non RTW states. It seems that every non union job I go to has a bunch of Spanish people working there and union jobs also have Spanish people working there, but they can actually speak English and surrounded by White & Black people. Also you don't find **** like this on Union job sites.

 

I hate to be like that, but I've seen it for well over 30 years. My uncle owned a gas station/convenience store on the highway that everyone traveled on to get to Florida. I started working there when I was 13-14, earned my way through college like that. And it was appalling the way I was treated by all the yankee snowbirds that came through a couple times a year heading down or back up to or from Florida. They literally would talk to me like I was the kid on the porch in Deliverance, like I was so mentally challenged that someone had done me a favor by letting me be there. I've had them come in and ask me to say different phrases so they could laugh at how I said it, just almost fall in the floor laughing at how I talked.

Would even laugh and talk down to my aunt and uncle like they were stupid hillbillies. Even though he bought that station in the 60's, had a national franchise I won't mention but it was top tier, a spin off of Standard Oil, and by the early 80's he was probably worth $10 million, which was a **** load of money back then. And these know it all, "highly educated" yankees would talk down to us like we were the stupidest people on earth. Would parade around and laugh like they were so much better than us, of course they were driving a rusted out Chevy Citation that they wanted to fill up.

But of course, they were much better off than us, they were from "up North", lol

I hate to say it, but in general (not everyone of them) yankees are some of the most arrogant, and ignorant people i've ever spent time with. Most (not all) of the yankees I've ever dealt with seem to think they are the most intelligent people on the planet, that they are so much smarter than anyone in the "south" could ever be. And when they come down here, they put that on full blast, they put that in everyone's face and we don't really like it, but they seem to think that they are better and smarter than anyone they encounter.

I'm not saying anyone that comes down here, but a very large portion of them, and I've seen it. It just makes it seem like they feel superior, even if they don't. It's just a feeling we get

We're not stuck up. Far from it. We are just tired of people from up north coming down here and telling us how things should be, we have our own way of life, we just don't like people from up north telling us how we should live our lives, and if we live our lives like we do we are somehow racist bastards that should be killed (like the cops in Texas). We're not like that, we are pretty good people. Those cops in Texas were good people, hell, they were actually marching alongside and protecting the people that were shouting **** the police, hands up don't shoot (which was a lie proven by the Obama justice department) they were trying to protect the first amendment rights of the protesters to say what they wanted, even though it was against them, they protected people that hated their guts, that was their job.

And they were murdered for protecting people that hated them

With that opinion of the South, you may have been here, but you need to experience here. I've never met anyone from up north that moved here that didn't like it better once they got over their bias and preconceived notions. Your second paragraph is incredibly ignorant, and exactly the kind of thing someone that thinks "their **** doesn't stink" would say about people that weren't them.

The South is far from perfect, but the North isn't exactly paradise either. I'd probably be pretty pissed at the world too if I had to spend 5 months of the year stuck indoors due to winter.

 

I'm ashamed to tell people I'm from California. I would move to the "South" in a heartbeat if my family would come with me.

That said, I am also proud of our history. Almost all of it, north, south, east, west. I am NOT proud of the history that's been written over the past 30 years or so. My generation acts like the last 30 years are our country's entire history though. Well, unless they're non-whites living in the hood - then the only history that matters is that slavery and then segregation existed, and the white man must pay.

Disclaimer - for those that don't know me, I'm as Heinz 57 American as it can get. People think I'm white, Mexican, Filipino, Japanese, Native American or even middle eastern, all dependent on how long my hair or beard is at any given moment. My wife is first gen Korean and we have two sons still in diapers. I seriously feel like our first born is going to grow up to be in the CIA. He watches dozens of kiddy YouTube videos in all kinds of languages, and knows words in almost all of them - English, Russian, Spanish, Hindi etc etc etc. It's kinda scary.

Pepsi sucks anyway. Especially in the South, Pepsi is a yankee drink. People down here drink Coke. I guess its because Coke is based in Atlanta. And Coke is so common of a drink that we use the word Coke to refer to any soft drink or soda. Its not even a brand name anymore, its an all encompassing term. Like Kleenex, or Joy (dish detergent).

You hear people down here refer to a Coke as anything. For example, you and a buddy pull up to a store and he goes in. He says "You want a Coke?" and you say "Yeah" He says "what kind?" and you say "Dr.Pepper". Or someone comes to your house and you ask them if they want a Coke and they say "yeah". You say "what kind" and they say "Mt.Dew".

Its interchangeable down here. Coke means a bubbly soda of some sort, not an actual Coc-a-Cola.
