General Mustang Newbie Question
I apologize in advance for my Mustang ignorance 🤣😁😂😳‼️
Are there base stock Mustangs (not GT, etc) with V8’s?
I know this is probably a stupid question, but it is what it is😂🤣😁‼️
thanks,
Donnie. (STMPD1)

Depends on the Year Model. The 05-09's Were Base V6, Gt V8 & Shelby Supercharged V8.

From 1982 to 1993, Ford sold the entry-level LX with the GT V8 drivetrain and suspension (I owned 2 of them). Beginning in 1994, V8s were available in GT or higher models only. I seem to remember they considered bringing back the entry-level V8s sometime in late 90s but I don't recall anything come out of it. As KC said 2005+ only have the V8s in GT or higher.

in the S197 2005-2014 model years, there was a "base GT" that had less fancy interior, and a "Premium GT" that had fancier interior among other things
generally there is a "base" and "premium" trim option within the GT and the V6 models

Thanks guys for helping me understand.
What I ran into is seeing mustangs ( not GTs) and trying to figure out if they were V8 or V6 without being able to look under the hood.
I appreciate the responses,

GT = V8 for recent generations .... if you see the GT badge or the 5.0 badge, that is a V8 .... but it could have different trim levels, generally "base" or "premium" and there are more options beyond those basic packages

All 1st generation 65-68 non-GT models all had the tri-bar badges with either 289 or 302 stamped on them... If memory is still accurate, there were no GT models during the 69-73 model years, it was either the base Mustang, Mach 1, Boss 302, Boss 351, Boss 429, Shelby GT350 or Shelby GT500... However, all 1st generation 65-73 models had V8 options, including base models... The Mustang II generation from 74-78 didn't bring back the 302 V8 until the 75-model year which replaced the tri-bar badges with V8 badges... All V8 Fox body models were identified with 5.0 badges on each fender... Same with the first SN-95 models from 1994-95, then from 1996-2004 went to 4.6L V8 displacement badging...That being said, Ford discontinued the use of stamping tri-bar badges to identify V8 engine displacement following the 1st generation 65-68 model years, with the exception of the Boss and California Special editions...

And yes, all Boss 302 models and California Special editions are V8 models with tri-bar badging.

Thanks again everyone. I think this is a topic that has to be studied out and learned/memorized better than I am able to do in my old age.
I certainly appreciate everyone’s knowledge and sharing it with me.
now I understand better that some questions are better not asked…especially at my age !!!
thank you all, as always!!

do the cars with the tri-bar badge ALSO have the 5.0 badge on the fender?
there are other visual clues such as the front bumper / lower facia that distinguish the GT/V8 from the V6 and other variants but it is harder to describe, the GT or 5.0 badge is the easiest give-away .... but again I'm not sure if the ones with the tri-bar on the front and back also have the 5.0 on the side

I understand if it has GT/5.0 or some other markings with the Tribar on the fender, that it is a V8.
Thanks again for everyone's patience and time !

I believe there were some V6's that had the tri-bar pony badge; 2011-2012 Mustang Club of America edition, if I remember correctly .... that's why I was asking if there was another way to tell them apart
generally the front end -- bumper and lower facia -- look less aggressive on the V6; if you saw them side-by-side you'd see the differences
I still think the GT and/or 5.0 badges are the easiest way to tell; but there are some exceptions such as the GT/CS (California Special) and the Boss 302

1967-early 68 Mustang 289 V8 front fender tri-bar badge
1968 Mustang 302 V8 front fender tri-bar badge
1967-68 Mustang 351 V8 front fender tri-bar badge
1967-68 Mustang 390 V8 front fender tri-bar badge
1965-66 Mustang V8 289 front fender badge
I hate to backtrack.....but my original thought in asking about Tribars /V8s/V6s came from my confusion of "Can I tell if a Mustang has a V6 orV8 if it has a Tribar badge only, on the fender.
I understand if it has GT/5.0 or some other markings with the Tribar on the fender, that it is a V8.
Thanks again for everyone's patience and time !

Also, all late model Mustangs up to 2016 with tri-bar badges on the front fenders were all V6 models... From 2017-current with tri-bar badges on the front fenders are all Eco-Boost 4-cylinder models.
