2019 automatic mustang gt transmission

Is it normal for the car to skip second gear when allowing it to downshift on its own in sport mode? Like it'll go through all of the gears when downshift but skip gear 2. So 5,4,3,1.
I can upshift and downshift to 2 just fine though

Yes, you are slowing down fast than the transmission is so it skips it and gets ready to take off.

I've never been in one of the 10 speeds, does it do a lot of noticable shifting up and down? Just curious about how it is with so many gears.

MAN!! So many gears. I keep forgetting about 10 speed autos...... I think the 8 speed auto in my R/T is crazy but 10?? No wonder it skips a gear or two in sport mode. That's good that it does that IMO. The 6 speed auto in my '14 GT is about the most I like, with 4 the best. Screw gas mileage.

When I first heard about the 10 speed, I thought am I reading about a Mustang or a Peterbilt?

it kinda defeats the purpose of having all those gears if it skips them, doesn't it? (except when slowing down quickly, that makes sense to me)

Bert, first off I would like to say, the 10 speed in the wife's '18 sux most of the time. There's just too many dang gears, and Ford's programming leaves a lot to be desired. With that said, it really doesn't hunt for gears like some would believe, but it does hang in the higher gears to long. It will lug the engine going up hills if you're not paying attention, and of course you have to give it the gun before it will downshift. All that lugging in the name of saving that thimble full of gas every tank full. Starting off normally it will usually go from first to 3rd, hold 3rd to build up rpm's, and then the stupid starts. It will then change from 4th, to 5th, and to 6th very quickly. It makes the tranny sound like it's slipping through all of them. Of course all that changes if you want to play around by just putting the thing in sport mode. For me, I would have been much more satisfied if Ford would have stuck with the old tried, and true 6 speed A/T.
